The Village: Shui Tau Tsuen

IMG_2844+copy.jpg

Hong Kong is made up of 4 main areas — The Island, Kowloon, New Territories, and Outlying Islands.

We live in the New Territories. Our larger district is called Yuen Long: our smaller district is called Kam Tin.

People often think our base is in the downtown area of Hong Kong because of our name “Harbour City”, when actually, we live in a beautiful village called Shui Tau Tsuen.

Our village is one of the oldest in all of Hong Kong and deemed a historic site for tourists to visit on weekends. You’ll notice many temples as those who trace their ancestors to this village will worship them there. We see our presence in this village as very strategic for the kingdom of God as we worship and serve Him at one of the birthplaces of this city. Even though we have been present in this village for over 20 years, we still consider ourselves guests and treat the people and culture of this place with the highest level of respect.

All villages houses and flats have different looks and colours.

This is what we call “Temple Court". Celebrations are usually held in this area where the village neighbours will join for performances, especially in Chinese New Year!

Some village homes still continue to use vintage mailboxes, which add a really interesting feel.

Village homes are full of quirky, interesting decor and plants. It’s pretty fun to take photos when walking around.
