Vision & Mission

As YWAM Harbour City, we are dedicated to being a vibrant community of God-worshippers who reach the lost, welcome in and send out teams and individuals, and serve the body of Christ in fulfilling its call to missions. We are passionate to see the Kingdom of God expand in Asia through mercy ministries, training, and evangelism.

Base Focus

God has led us to focus on several targets in this season,
some of which are in Hong Kong and some of which are outside.

One of those targets is to disciple youth here in Hong Kong to live a life that exhibits a commitment to fulfill the Great Commission regardless of their occupation.

We do this through a variety of discipleship programs both at the base and in local schools and churches, as well as through outreaches to provide a taste of evangelism. We also have an external focus which involves targeting our surrounding region. Please contact us so we can share more with you!

Life on Staff

+ Weekly Activities

Monday through Friday we usually start off our days with worship followed up by intercession or Bible study. After that we work in whatever area we serve in at the base. We also have several other different activities and meetings throughout the week which include small groups, Cantonese class, staff meetings, and more!

+ Days Off

Saturdays and Sundays are usually days off, we encourage our staff to attend a local church and explore the city! Hong Kong is a city of immense physical and social contrasts. Serene islands and uninhabited hill areas are only miles away from some of the most densely populated spots on the face of the world. Over 90% of the total population is Chinese, primarily speaking Cantonese. The remainder of the city represents a variety of ethnicities from all over the world. Hong Kong is very much a multinational city.

+ Yearly Activities

Every year we have a base staff retreat where we come to lay down our regular daily schedule and spend quality time together, having fun, food, fellowship and spiritual refreshment. We also go to different outreaches, conferences, and training seminars depending on what’s going on during the year!

+ Local Outreaches

Outreach opportunities include reaching out to schools, university campuses, families, elderly, refugees, the red-light district, domestic helpers and more are all possibilities. As a base, we are especially focused on reaching out to and discipling the youth of Hong Kong. Any staff member can take initiative to pioneer local outreaches and new ministries.

+ Community

We value community and relationships! We love hanging out by eating together, sightseeing, hiking, game nights, and many other activities! We also have intentional times of checking up on each other which we call ‘One-on-Ones’.

Commitment

We ask staff to make a 2 year commitment to serve at the base. We have found that this is a good amount of time for a person to be able to find their place in the community, as well as grow in their role(s) at the base. By joining staff, you are committing to serving at the base weekly, but also to community events, conferences, opportunities to staff in training schools (DTS or secondary schools), and times of celebration with the YWAM Harbour City family!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is YWAM Harbour City's focus?

As a community we are primarily focused on discipling the youth of Hong Kong and reaching out to other nations in Asia. We would love to give you more information on what we are currently doing and our plans for the future; get in contact with us!

+ Where is the base located?

Our base is in Shui Tau Tsuen (read our blog post about the village) which is one of the oldest villages in all of Hong Kong and deemed a historic site for tourists to visit on weekends. We consider our presence in this village to be very strategic for the kingdom of God because we worship and serve Him at one of the birthplaces of this city.

+ What is the base's schedule like?

The general schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00-6:00 with a one and a half hour lunch break from 1:00-2:30. Worship starts at 9:00 followed by intercession at 10:00. Saturday and Sundays are generally free.

There will be times when you are asked to work on the weekend or outside regular hours due to the variety of ministries we do. Base schedules are usually adjusted when this happens to make sure everyone has enough time to rest.

+ Do I get vacation time?

After one full year of service (12 months) staff will be given 20 working days of furlough.

+ Where would I live while on staff?

We require staff to live in the village where the base is located. There are a variety of apartments and flats available at different price points in the village. Our existing staff may have space available in their own apartments for new staff to live in and pay their share of the rent. You also have the option to rent your own flat, and we are able to assist you with finding a place if needed.

+ What do I need in order to join staff?

In order to join staff, you must FIRST complete a Discipleship Training School (DTS) at a YWAM location. If you have not yet done a DTS but want to join staff, consider doing one of our DTS's!

+ Do I get to choose what department I serve in/what I do when I'm on staff?

We try to give everyone the opportunity to do what they are passionate about! However, there will be times when you are asked to serve in areas that may not be your preference. This may happen due to schools running, a busy season, staff on furlough, etc.
